Texas State Bobcat turned Michigan State Spartan fan.

A California native, I call Texas home. Living there for 20 years opened my eyes to hundreds of new experiences and people. After high school, I moved from Spring, Texas (a suburb of Houston) to San Marcos, Texas to go to school at Texas State University. There, I studied Mass Communication with an emphasis on Advertising. In addition to classes on design, implementation, demographics, psychographics and media planning, I learned what it means to brand and market yourself as a young professional. Thanks to Cindy Royal, an assistant professor at Texas State, I got very involved with social media including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Getting involved, getting my name out and making sure my brand was known made the transition from college into the 'real world' infinitely easier.

After graduating from Texas State and doing an internship with Sprint/Nextel in Austin, Texas, I moved with my partner, Blue Brazelton, to Lansing, Michigan. He is into his second year as a PhD candidate in the Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education program. He works with Dr. Kristen Renn on many projects, papers, publications and things I don't understand. :) It's interesting and exciting to see him rise to his true potential as a PhD candidate, and it's a treat for me to get to meet and know the people in his field.

The transition into Lansing for me was relatively easy thanks to Twitter and the #lovelansing hashtag. I've met people here who have helped me find a career, showed me just how much there is to do in this city, taken me out to some of the best restaurants or just offered to answer questions I may have. Many people think Michigan is some sort of barren wasteland that has no jobs, no growth and no positivity. The Michigan I've been introduced to is the exact opposite of that. The people in #lovelansing love their city, their state and the people in it. It's people like them who make me never want to leave (but don't tell my dad)!
